Eyes Fixed on Jesus
No person has had the influence and impact of Jesus on both the whole world and all human history. This influence has caused many people to ask, “Who is this Jesus?” Some argue for him being a good teacher, a political martyr, or some other decent person. The Bible doesn’t give us the opportunity to view Jesus in that way. Jesus is classed as the one who came to die for sinners so that we could gain eternal life by trusting in him. This then means that we cannot regard Jesus as simply “a good example”. C.S. Lewis came to recognise that Jesus can only be identified as one of three things: a liar, a lunatic or Lord. Jesus is either to be perfectly trusted or completely ignored. There is no middle ground of belief in Jesus. John’s gospel gives the reasons for believing in Jesus as God and the only one who can save us. He doesn’t want us to hear about Jesus through naïve or ignorant claims. He is direct in his argument for Jesus as the one who everyone needs and in whom we should trust. Join with us as we look at this Jesus through the lens John gives us and see why we “can believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have eternal life” (John 20:30-31).
